THE FOOD SECURITY

The Food Security Program is the cornerstone of Casa de Peregrinos’ pantry operations in Las Cruces. Since 1979, it has provided essential food support to families across Doña Ana County. Eligible households receive one food distribution per month, averaging 135 pounds of food—enough to provide approximately 78 meals. According to USDA standards, each box is valued at around $150.

In recent years, CdP has made significant strides in enhancing the nutritional quality of its food boxes. Distributions now regularly include fresh produce such as apples, oranges, potatoes, onions, zucchini, tomatoes, and other seasonal vegetables when available.

Each food basket also includes protein-rich items like cheese, meat, and fresh eggs, along with pantry staples such as dried beans, pasta, rice, canned goods, and bakery items, ensuring families receive both nourishment and variety with every visit.
