Cans for Canaan: Honoring a Hero, Feeding Our Community

In Loving Memory of Canaan Bower (2003–2022)

On March 25, 2020, Canaan Bower stood up against violence and protected a mother and her children from harm. His courage, bravery, and selflessness were recognized across the country, including a proclamation by the City of Las Cruces declaring April 14 as “Canaan Bower Day of Valor.” Dana White, President of the UFC, praised Canaan’s heroic actions, calling him a true embodiment of strength and compassion.

Canaan passed away on March 9, 2022, in a tragic motorcycle accident at the age of 18. Though his life was cut short, his impact lives on.

Continuing His Legacy

Canaan’s parents, Troy and Kara Bower, continue to honor his spirit through the Cans for Canaan food drive — an annual effort to support families in need through Casa de Peregrinos, the leading emergency food pantry in Doña Ana County.

Your donation helps ensure that no family in our community goes hungry. Every can, every dollar, and every share makes a difference.
